Malaysian Press Metal Aluminium Holdings subsidiary Press Metal Bintulu has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification for its aluminium smelting, re-melting/refining, casting and aluminium dross internal recovery activities at the Sarawak, Malaysia facility. It is the first smelting operation to achieve ASI Certification in Southeast Asia. The facility has an annual production capacity of 960,000 tonnes in the form of ingots, billets, primary foundry alloys and wire rods. Press Metal International in Foshan in China, another subsidiary of Press Metal, also received Performance Standard Certification with Provisional status for its extrusion activities in September 2022.The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.The independent, third-party audit of the Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd operation was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
