Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that Symetal has been successfully certified against ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. Symetal has achieved ASI Performance Standard Certification for its aluminium foil rolling facility (Oinofyta) and aluminium foil converting facility (Mandra) in Greece. The combined annual production capacity of Symetal’s two facilities is 78,000 tonnes of aluminium foil, with the company exporting over 90% of its production to around 70 countries. The company offers custom aluminium foil products mainly used in packaging solutions for a wide range of global customers including the food, pharmaceutical and electric vehicle battery industries. The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audit of the Symetal facilities was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
