World's leading aluminum producer RUSAL has developed a new 5xxx series aluminum alloy for further anodizing. Production has been established at the Bratsk Aluminum Plant BrAZ. RUSAL's Technical Directorate conducted a general qualification of this alloy and organized its mass production. Further, based on the development, the production of 5005A alloy slabs of an optimized composition will be launched, used by rolling mills for further transfer: anodized coils and sheets.Now these products are almost completely imported. The production of the new alloy in industrial volumes will make it possible to provide the Russian consumer of the 5xxx series with domestically produced metal. It will also contribute to the emergence of such high value-added products as facade cladding panels, spotlights, and electrolytic capacitors.The needs of the domestic market are estimated at 50 thousand tons of 5xxx series alloy per year.Due to the anodization of alloys, the final product is covered with a protective oxide film, which is slightly inferior in hardness to diamond. Anodizing technology improves the corrosion resistance of products, improves their aesthetic appearance and increases their service life.
