Leading Russian aluminium producer RUSAL has registered total revenue of USD 7.153 billion in the first half of 2022 as compared to USD 5.449 billion for the corresponding period of 2021. EBITDA increased to USD 1.807 billion as against USD 1.315 billion for the same period of 2021 & net income was of USD 680 million as against USD 2.018 billion for the same period of 2021. Average sales price of aluminium was USD 3,365 per tonne in the first six months of 2022, up by 47% YoY.RUSAL said “Growing geopolitical tensions, since February 2022, significantly increased volatility on the commodities and currency markets, negatively affected the activities of Russian enterprises in various sectors of the economy, which led to a decrease in aluminium demand in Russia. The ban on alumina exports to Russia imposed by the Australian government, as well as the suspension of production at Nikolaiev Alumina Refinery due to the events in Ukraine, negatively affected the supply of raw materials for aluminium production and led to an increase in costs. The Company is forced to rebuild its supply chains. Investment projects and modernization programmes of production facilities may be delayed because of difficulties with the supply of equipment. These factors, as well as the strengthening of the ruble, led to an increase in production costs.
