ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has widened its mining equipment fleet with the Epiroc DM75 D rig. The company invested almost UAH 36 million in a new blasthole drilling rig to be operated in open pit No 2-bis. Lately, local and international companies opt for DM series drilling rigs more often because of their proven effectiveness and reliability. These machines can be operated in a difficult environment, and are famous for being autonomous, maneuverable, and safe. Epiroc DM75 D drill is designed for rotary drilling of vertical and inclined wells. The maximum drilling depth is 51.2 m with rods longer than 10 m.

Artem Kuznetsov, Head of the Mining Development Division, Mining Department, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih:
- Drilling is the first operation in mining and production process, therefore it has huge importance. So, the company's management decided to upgrade the drilling equipment fleet. Modern Epiroc DM75 D is equipped with an upgraded clutch, powerful low-pressure compressor, 800 horsepower Caterpillar diesel engine. The machine is not dependent on power grids, and thus can move quickly, maneuver, and work in any weather conditions. Its productivity is up to 10 running meters per hour. Besides all other modern features, this machine has a wet dust suppression system, which makes the drilling process more environmentally friendly.
It also ensures safe working conditions for its operator. The machine is equipped with a latch valve, leveling jacks, and load holding valves. The comfortable cab with improved visibility is FOPS (Falling Object Protective Structure) certified. An operator can see the parameters of the rig and the drilling on the displays in the cab: the position of the rod, speed and depth. All the working functions of the rig are controlled through a special panel, the ergonomic layout of which allows the operator to quickly switch from drilling mode to moving mode, and it increases productivity.
In total, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih currently uses four roller-bit drilling rigs, five Pit Viper machines, electric DM 75 E rig and Roc L8 rig for setting the pit walls to the boundary positions. New Epiroc DM75 D machine will start working in open pit No. 2-bis as soon as all the necessary permits are obtained. In 2021 the company plans to purchase one more new drilling rig for pre-splitting in its open pits.
