Boeing and Azerbaijan Airlines have unveiled a significant development as the national flag carrier orders eight 787-8 Dreamliners to enhance its long-haul fleet. These super-efficient jets will empower the Central Asian airline to profitably establish new routes originating from Azerbaijan and augment capacity to cater to inbound tourism.

Leaders from both companies, including Jahangir Asgarov, president of Azerbaijan Airlines, and Stan Deal, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commemorated this milestone at a signing ceremony held at the airline's hub in Baku. Previously, in July 2022, Boeing and the carrier expressed their commitment to acquire four 787s. However, the order has now been finalized for a total of eight airplanes, with the details undisclosed on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website.

"The commendable progress achieved in the realm of civil aviation in our country is a direct result of the unwavering support and attention provided by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. The signing of this contract with Boeing for the acquisition of state-of-the-art wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliners marks a pivotal step in our fleet modernization and the elevation of AZAL's air transportation services," stated Asgarov.

The 787 Dreamliner, with over 1,600 orders from more than 85 customers worldwide, has earned the distinction of being the fastest-selling twin-aisle airplane in history. Since its introduction in 2011, the family of 787s has facilitated the opening of more than 350 nonstop routes, fueled by its exceptional fuel efficiency, flexibility, and range. Azerbaijan Airlines recently established a new connection between Baku and New Delhi, thanks to the capabilities of the 787.

Deal remarked, "The 787 has positioned Azerbaijan Airlines as the premier carrier in Central Asia, as its flexibility and capabilities have facilitated increased tourism and economic growth in Azerbaijan. For over two decades, we have enjoyed an exceptional partnership with Azerbaijan Airlines, and this order for Dreamliners underscores the strength of our product family and the bond between our companies."

Crafted with lightweight composite materials and powered by advanced engines, the 787 Dreamliner can accommodate up to 20% more passengers while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 25% compared to the aircraft it replaces. With a range of up to 13,530 km in a typical two-class configuration, the 787-8 enables Azerbaijan Airlines to expand its network across Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Azerbaijan Airlines stands as one of the largest carriers in Central Asia, serving 40 destinations across 25 countries, and operating a fleet consisting of Boeing 757, 767, and 787 aircraft.
