Philippine Airlines (PAL) has made a significant decision in its Ultra Long Haul Fleet project by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the acquisition of nine A350-1000 aircraft. These advanced aircraft will serve non-stop routes from Manila to various destinations in North America, including the East Coast of the United States and Canada.
Joining the existing fleet of two A350-900s, which are currently flying to destinations in North America, Asia, and Australia, the PAL A350-1000s will feature a premium layout with separate cabins for Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class.
Captain Stanley K. Ng, President and Chief Operating Officer of Philippine Airlines, emphasized that the A350-1000's extended range will enable the airline to operate non-stop transpacific and transpolar flights throughout the year. This includes some of the world's longest commercial routes, such as those connecting the Philippines with New York and Toronto. Additionally, with an expanded A350 fleet, PAL will once again establish a direct link from the Philippines to Europe.

Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Philippine Airlines and the airline's modernization program for its long haul fleet. He highlighted the A350's remarkable fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and enhanced passenger comfort as factors that have made it the preferred choice for leading airlines worldwide.
The A350 is renowned as the most modern and efficient widebody aircraft, setting new standards for intercontinental travel. With a non-stop range capability of 8,700 nautical miles or 16,100 kilometers, it surpasses any other commercial airliner in production today.
As of April 2023, the A350 Family has secured 928 firm orders from 54 customers globally, making it one of the most successful wide-body aircraft ever. Approximately 530 A350 aircraft are currently in service with 40 airlines, predominantly operating on long haul routes.
Philippine Airlines operates various Airbus aircraft types on its full-service network. In addition to the A350 for long-haul intercontinental routes, PAL utilizes A330-300s for services to the Middle East, Australia, and various destinations in Asia. The airline's fleet also includes A320 and A321 single-aisle aircraft, serving its extensive domestic and regional network from hubs in Manila and Cebu.
