Article:
Charoen Pokphand Group (CP), True Leasing (TLS), Siam Cement Group (SCG), Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota), and Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT) have united in a significant stride toward Thailand's journey to attain carbon neutrality. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) amplifies their collaboration, building upon past achievements in logistics optimization at CP and SCG and the initiation of carbon-neutral mobility practices in Thailand.
The MOU stems from a robust foundation rooted in the trusted relationships between CP's Senior Chairman Dhanin Chearavanont, President and CEO of SCG Roongrote Rangsiyopash, and former President Akio Toyoda of Toyota. Together, CP, TLS, SCG, Toyota, and CJPT have embarked on initiatives focused on data, mobility, and energy, all aimed at contributing to the well-being of Thailand's 67 million citizens.
Their concerted efforts are concentrated across three key areas: Data Solutions, Mobility Solutions, and Energy Solutions. In Data Solutions, leveraging extensive data from CP and SCG's retail and logistics operations, coupled with traffic and vehicle data, resulted in optimized delivery routes, showcasing an immediate CO₂ emissions reduction of around 15%*1 at the demonstration stores.
Within Mobility Solutions, diverse vehicles including FC Trucks, the Hilux Revo BEV concept, and others were introduced, demonstrating a reduction of approximately 68 metric tons/year*2 in CO₂ emissions. Notably, successful flight tests of the FC Drone for farm tasks were conducted at a CP Farm, broadening the spectrum of sustainable practices.
Energy Solutions saw the pioneering introduction of equipment to produce hydrogen from biogas, utilizing resources like poultry farm manure and food waste. This hydrogen was employed as fuel for FC Trucks, the FC Drone, and even in a racing car by December's end. Plans include demonstrating energy management using solar power generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems.
The collective effort's next phase involves immediate deployment of HEVs and Kei vehicles essential to Thai society, alongside expanded adoption of FCEVs and BEVs. This initiative aims to enhance energy efficiency and cost reduction throughout the energy production, transportation, and usage phases, leveraging Thailand's unique resource conditions.
To further advance their aims, leveraging CP, SCG, and Toyota's data along with Toyota's Digital Twin Technology, the consortium aims to optimize personnel, logistics, and energy flow, integrating social systems for energy management and traffic control.
In a bid to accelerate these endeavors, a new entity, Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Asia Co., Ltd., has been established in Thailand. The unified MOU signifies a resolute commitment to ushering in a carbon-neutral society, starting with Thailand and potentially influencing global practices.
Conclusion:
The joint effort of CP, True Leasing, SCG, Toyota, and CJPT signifies a substantial commitment to reduce carbon emissions in Thailand. Their collaboration, spanning data utilization, innovative mobility solutions, and advanced energy management, sets a promising trajectory towards achieving carbon neutrality, potentially influencing global sustainability practices.
