Gazprom Neft, together with the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources Rosprirodnadzor, has deployed augmented reality technologies in inspecting production facilities in Russia for the first time, AR solutions having made it possible to inspect capital construction facilities’ compliance with environmental legislation and issue commissioning approvals remotely, and as quickly as possible. This project on deploying AR technologies was implemented by specialists from Gazprom Neft’s Procurement and Capital Construction Directorate and the Gazpromneft-Digital Solutions’ VR and AR Technology Centre. From their offices in Moscow and Orenburg Rosprirodnadzor representatives inspected new Gazprom Neft wells at the Yagodnoye field in the Orenburg Oblast remotely, with verification being undertaken — for the first time in Russia — using video broadcasting and AR tools. Based on the outcomes of this inspection, Rosprirodnadzor was able to issue its conclusion on these wells’ compliance with environmental regulation, allowing the company to complete the assessment procedure and get clearance to commission the facilities. This pilot experiment has confirmed the considerable effectiveness of AR technologies in managing the oversight and approval of newly constructed facilities remotely. Digital solutions improve quality standards and speed, as well as cutting operational costs —particularly on inspections in inaccessible and remote areas. Added to which, such technologies ensure speed and safety in assessing new production facilities under the constraints arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Going forward, Rosprirodnadzor will be able to roll-out this solution in signing-off other newly constructed facilities in other regions throughout Russia.
