Brazilian oil & gas giant Petrobras has successfully completed the first test in Brazil of the new Diesel R in configuration R5, fuel with 5% renewable content of plant origin in its composition, which is part of the company's BioRefining program, aimed at the development of a new generation of products of lower carbon intensity. The ceremony of completion of the tests was held on 23 November at the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery Repar in AraucariaFor six months, four buses of The Redeemer Highway circulated with diesel R5 in the city of Curitiba. The test was conducted by Petrobras, Vibra Energia, Mercedes-Benz, URBS (the body that manages public and commercial transportation in Curitiba), in addition to redemptive highway. From March to September this year, the four buses tested were supplied with approximately 100,000 liters of Diesel R5, distributed on three distinct routes. The results of the tests corroborated the in characteristic of renewable diesel, that is, it is a product that can be used in systems designed for diesel oil without the need for any modification in engines and logistics infrastructure. The Diesel R5 rode with reliability and good performance. No problems such as filter clogging, injection system deposits or engine power loss were observed. Regarding consumption, the new fuel showed no differences when compared to mineral diesel oil.It was also possible to evaluate aspects of production, logistics, marketing and distribution of the product.
