A wind energy project can also be approved and implemented comparatively quickly. In the municipality of Neuendorf in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate, two wind turbines have been in operation since the beginning of February 2023 – three months earlier than planned. The two Vestas V150 turbines each have a rated output of 4.2 megawatts. The hub heights of the turbines are between 123 and 166 meters, the rotor diameter is 150 meters and the total height is a maximum of 241 meters above ground. The permit application was submitted in mid-2019; two years later, EnBW received approval for construction in time for the invitation to tender issued by the Federal Network Agency in September 2021.The challenge in the approval procedure was the parallel approval process for the partial update of the land use plan of the Verbandsgemeinde of Prüm, because without a valid land use plan, no permit could be issued. As part of the procedure, the EnBW project team also relocated three anthills near the construction site in spring 2022 under the guidance of the Deutsche Ameisenschutzwarte.
