SONATRACH & Eni have laid foundation stone for a laboratory specialized in solar energy "Solar Lab" as well as the laying of the first stone of a new photovoltaic solar power plant "BRN2", which will be built near the first photovoltaic plant "BRN1", inaugurated in 2018 in Bir Rbaâ Nord in the Berkine basin. The "Solar Lab" aims to test different types of photovoltaic panels in an environment characterized by very high levels of solar radiation. This laboratory will work on the collection and analysis of data in order to achieve the best level of technological performance in this field. This solar energy laboratory will be open to universities and public institutions for research purposes. "Solar Lab" is therefore of strategic importance in terms of the promotion and development of renewable energies in Algeria. The construction of the "BRN 2" photovoltaic power plant aims to exploit the high solar energy potential enjoyed by this region. Connected to the first photovoltaic plant "BRN 1", this new plant will help supply the facilities of Bir Rbaâ Nord by producing an additional 10 megawatts of electrical energy. In addition to these two photovoltaic plants, it is planned to build a third plant at the Menzel Lejmat East (MLE) production site in the Berkine basin. The start of work on this facility is scheduled for 2023, in partnership with Eni.
