Engro Energy Limited and Agha Steel Industries signed a term sheet to provide renewable energy to Agha Steel from its renewable energy park. Agha Steel said the partnership would bring down its production cost as well as help them contributing to a low-carbon and renewable energy-reliant economy in coming years. Agha Steel Industries Limited is a leading Steel Re-Rolling Manufacturing Company in Pakistan with an annual capacity of 240,000 tonnes per annum. ASIL represents one of the largest private sector investments in the steel industry of Pakistan. Agha Steel has a 45 tonne EAF & claims to be Pakistan’s first completely automatic Rolling Mill with 17 Stand x 2 Strand, having a capacity to make Re-Bars ranging from 9.5mm to 40mm at the maximum speed of 18 meters per second.Engro Energy Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company and the Directorate of Alternate Energy in October 2021, to establish a renewable energy park that will provide electricity to industry at Port-Qasim and Dhabeji. In the first phase of the project Engro plans to provide upto 400MW of electricity by early 2024 with the potential to increase this generation to 1GW by end of 2029. Engro energy is establishing the renewable energy park at Jhimpir in Thatta District in Sindh. It would be a first of its kind hybrid wind and solar PV parks that will provide up to 400MW of electricity by early 2024 in first phase. The initiative is expected to not only reduce the electricity cost of industrial consumers but also help the Sindh Government deliver on its commitment of increasing share of Renewable Energy in the energy mix to 30% by 2030.
