International technology group ANDRITZ has secured a significant order from North American Stainless, based in Ghent, Kentucky, USA, to supply a cutting-edge 20-high cold-rolling mill, a 4-high skin pass mill, and an upgrade for the existing annealing and pickling line #2. This collaboration reaffirms the long-standing and successful business relationship between ANDRITZ and the Acerinox Group. The newly designed cold-rolling mill will feature the innovative Sundwig MonoBlock (SMB) design, ensuring an extended service life and reduced operating expenses. ANDRITZ's scope of work encompasses the complete mechanical and electrical equipment, including supervision during installation and start-up. The focus will be on enhancing production efficiency, maintaining excellent strip shape, and ensuring superior strip surface condition to manufacture products of the highest quality. With the Sundwig MonoBlock design, the 20-high cold mill will have the capacity to roll product widths of up to 1350 mm, accepting incoming material gauges of up to 6.2 mm and delivering finished materials as thin as 0.15 mm. This unique design incorporates features for simplified maintenance, such as an automatic roll change device, expanded roll grinding ranges, easy back-up roll assembly, and hydraulic adjustment via long stroke cylinders, resulting in a substantial roll gap opening.Additionally, the project includes the installation of a state-of-the-art skin pass mill capable of rolling products up to 1600 mm wide, accommodating material gauges ranging from 6.2 mm to 0.3 mm. The upgrade to annealing and pickling line #2 will involve incorporating a new advanced furnace cooling section, shot blasting capabilities, and an improved pickling section.
