Shymkent Temir Limited Liability Partnership has recently entered into a contract with POMINI Long Rolling Mills for the design and supply of an advanced bar combination mill. This mill will be installed in the vibrant city of Shymkent, located in Kazakhstan. The collaboration aims to broaden Shymkent Temir's product catalog and cater to the booming construction markets in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, bolstering their position in the region.

Phase 1 of the project will consist of a bar rolling mill featuring both slow- and high-speed lines. The commissioning of the mill is scheduled for mid-2024. With a capacity to process 300,000 metric tons of billets annually, the bar mill will be capable of producing a variety of products including bars for concrete reinforcement (rebar) with diameters ranging from 8 to 40 mm, plain rounds with diameters ranging from 10 to 40 mm, and square and hexagonal bars with sizes ranging from 12 to 40 mm.

Phase 2 of the project will witness the addition of a rod outlet to the rolling train, enabling the production of coils of wire rods and rebars. The rod outlet will facilitate the creation of wire rods with diameters ranging from 5.5 to 16 mm and rebars with diameters from 6 to 12 mm. The layout and equipment of the mill will be designed to accommodate both Phase 1 and Phase 2 operations, ensuring seamless scalability.

The rolling train will feature eighteen Red Ring Series 5 housing-less rolling stands, divided into roughing, intermediate, and first finishing train sections. The low-speed line will thermo-process larger sizes from 14 to 40 mm, delivering them to the cooling bed at a maximum speed of 13.5 m/s. The high-speed line will handle smaller sizes from 8 to 16 mm, further rolling them through a 4-stand no-twist finishing monoblock. After thermo-processing, the bars will be divided and collected on the cooling bed at a maximum speed of 28.5 m/s.

In Phase 2, a second identical 4-stand monoblock will be added to facilitate the rolling of wire rods and rebars at a maximum speed of 70 m/s. The bars will be deposited in spiraled rings on a continuous cooling conveyor equipped with cooling fans. These rings will then be collected by the coil forming station for further processing, including final air cooling, compacting, tying, weighing, labeling, and storage.

The project scope includes the supply of shearing units for cropping, emergency scrapping, hot and cold division, as well as change parts, shop devices, rolls, rings, shear blades, laying head pipes, and other mechanical equipment necessary for the mill's operation. Additionally, the main electrical supply, including the Uninterruptible Power Supply, main and auxiliary drives and motors, and basic automation (L1), will be provided. POMINI Long Rolling Mills will also offer advisory services for the installation and commissioning of the mill.
