The ArcelorMittal plant in João Monlevade in MG state of Brazil has received international recognition in the area of sustainability after its operations are certified in accordance with the ResponsibleSteel standard, a global standardization and certification initiative that works to maximize responsible steel production, DNV Brasil auditors visited all facilities at the Monlevade Unit to assess operations and processes in line with ResponsibleSteel principles. They also interacted with employees, third parties, representatives of the City Council and social projects, community leaders, among others. The ResponsibleSteel certification assesses governance standards, from decarbonization processes to respect for human rights, local communities and employees, from employee and process safety to the responsible use of natural resources. The audit team's report was reviewed by an independent panel before it was issued. The Monlevade unit certificate is valid for three years and is the second obtained by a company operation in Brazil. The Tubarão unit was certified in March 2022. ArcelorMittal's objective is to certify all plants in Brazil by December 2023. It is a reflection of the dedication and hard work at ArcelorMittal's Monlevade site to ensure they are meeting the highest standards of responsible steel production. In addition to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, they also set an intermediate commitment to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 10% by 2030. They also took great care to address the needs of employees and the local community and to implement practices that protect the natural environment around them”. The ResponsibleSteel standard considers 12 environmental, social and governance principles. They are: Corporate Leadership; Social, Environmental and Governance Management Systems; Occupational and Community Health and Safety; Labor Rights; Human rights; Local Communities; Engagement of People
