ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has completed an extended overhaul of the third category at blast furnace No 7 in blast-furnace shop No 1. Through the overhaul, technological parameters of the furnace have been restored and designed capacities of 3 500 tonnes of hot metal per day have been achieved. The company's costs for the renovation of the metallurgical machine amounted to over UAH 140 million.
The overhaul took 25 days and ended with a record-breaking rapid blowing of the furnace, the total volume of which is 2 000 cubic meters. Main works included restoring the blast furnace cooling system: 124 cooling staves out of 400 were replaced, which is 30% of the entire cooling system. Moreover, the blast furnace shaft was shotcreted. Now all cooling staves are securely "hidden" under the refractory concrete. The loading device and the skip hoist were replaced, namely, its fourth speed was restored. This immediately increased the productivity of the furnace by 500 tons of hot metal per day. Almost half of the furnace cast house was dismantled and built again in fact, while the other part was significantly reinforced, which contributes to industrial safety.
Production capacity of blast furnace No 7 is 1.2 million tonnes of hot metal per year. In total, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih currently has three blast furnaces in operation No 6, 7, 9. One more blast furnace, No 8, has been stopped for overhaul. The capacity of the plant, having a full production cycle, is designed to produce over 6 million tonnes of steel, more than 5 million tonnes of rolled products, and over 5.5 tonnes of hot metal annually.
