The creation of the world’s first 200m long bamboo made crash barrier, known as Bahu Balli, is built on the Vani-Warora Highway in Vidarbh, Maharashtra offering an environmental friendly alternative to steel. The bamboo species used in making this barrier is Bambusa Balcoa, which is treated with creosote oil and coated with recycled High-Density Poly Ethylene.The bamboo crash barrier was rated as Class 1 during the fire rating test carried out at the Central Building Research Institute in Roorkee. It underwent rigorous testing at numerous government run institutions, including the National Automotive Test Tracks in Pithampur, Indore. It has also received approval from the Indian Road Congress.
