World’s largest steel maker China Baowu plans to build a continuous casting steel project C3120 with an electric furnace, with a designed annual production output of 1.8 million tonne located in Zhanjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone at its current plant in Donghai Island in Zhanjiang city. The main products will be high-grade steel sheet, including steel for auto usage and silicon steel. The new plant will include one 220 tonne electric furnace, one 220 tonne ladle furnace, one 220 tonne RH facility, one 2,150mm continuous casting line, one direct reduced iron conveying system, one steel slag processing and processing production line, one 10,000 tonne general cargo berth, and supporting facilities such as power supply and distribution, water supply and drainage, gas heat, inspection and testing, living facilities, information communication, transportation, etc. This plant complies with China’s industry requirements of policy and related plans, creating new methods to combine hydrogen smelting and electric furnace short process, achieving green and low carbon innovation. The new project is part of Baowu’s plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions as it is a low-carbon metallurgical production route.
