Polish steelmaker Cognor has signed an agreement to acquired 100% holding in Czech graphite electrode producer JAP Industries and its dedicated logistics provider Spedex for a combined CZK 280 million (USD 12.2 million). JAP Industries produces electrodes from imported feedstock, as well as trading in ferroalloys, which are both key input materials for electric arc furnace-based steelmaking, which Cognor employs. JAP is a manufacturer of graphite products, including manufactured graphite electrodes in the impregnation process of the semi-finished product purchased from external suppliers developed by this company. This entity is also involved in, among other things, trading in ferroalloys. Until now, JAP has been a long-term supplier of Cognor, whose share in its sales amounted to over a dozen percent in the last three years. The acquisition of JAP and SPEDEX companies is the implementation of the Group's strategy consisting, among others, in shortening supply chains and reducing the risk related to the timely delivery of key materials and raw materials.
