Brazilian miner & steel maker Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional has announced on 4 July 2022 an agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Companhia Energética Chapecó, holder of the exploration rights of the Quebra-Queixo 120 MW hydroelectric plant in Santa Catarina State in Southern Brazil. The acquisition will be made in partnership with the investment fund Astra Infraestrutura I Fundo de Investimento em Participação Multiestratégia, which is managed by Reag Investimentos. The agreement relates to the full control of Chapeco, allowing for the transfer of rights and obligations to any of its subsidiaries.According to CSN, the projection of growth in electricity consumption by CSN in the coming years has grown exponentially. The plant aims to support and strengthen the growth of future expansions of CSN, in addition to being a strong option for renewable energy. Completion of the transaction is subject to approval by regulatory authorities, in addition to other suspensive conditions.
