Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional announced last week that it will acquire all shares of local steel and metallic can producer Metalgrafica Iguassu in Ponta Grossa for an undisclosed price. The operation, yet to be approved by the shareholders, will make Iguaçu a wholly owned subsidiary of the steelmakerMetalgrafica Iguassu has 300 workers in two facilities in Ponta Grossa in Parana state and Goiania in Goias state of Brazil. The company produces steel cans for both the domestic and export markets.CSN says the operation is a strategic step to expand the production capacity of the company’s packaging division, as the technology used by Metalgraphic is more modern than the one used by CSN.
