<p>Malaysia-based Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd has broken ground for 1380-cubic-meter blast furnace project on 20 March 2022 at Kemaman in Terengganu in Malaysia. With the excavation of the blast furnace foundation, the civil construction is launched. It is being designed and supplied by MCC Jingcheng. The expected annual output of molten iron was 1.7 million tonnes. The blast furnace has adopted advanced design concepts and applied advanced blast furnace longevity technology which laid the foundation for the realization of blast furnace automation and intelligent production. Hot rolled coil production is planned to start in 2023</p><p>The blast furnace project is part of Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd’s 2.7 million-tonne steel project. MCC Jingcheng has undertaken the overall plant design and main equipment supply for the 2.7 million-tonne project. </p><p>Eastern Steel Sdn. Bhd is located on the East Coast of West Peninsular of Malaysia. It was jointly invested by Beijing Jianlong Heavy Industry Group Co Ltd and Hiap Teck Venture Bhd. It was built on an industrial land measuring 1209 acre. Its main production facilities consist of a sintering plant, an iron making plant, steel making plant and an auxiliary plant, and it has an annual production capacity of 700,000 tonnes. In 2018, Beijing Jianlong acquired controlling stake in ESSB and commenced resumption of production within a relatively short period of half a year. Moving forward, the Company is planning to expand its annual production capacities to 5 million tonnes with the building of a fully integrated steel plant.</p>
