The European Steel Association EUROFER has requested that the European Commission should register the imports of hot dip galvanized coil from Turkey and Russia. The request is part of the antidumping duty investigation against certain HDG imports from the given countries initiated in June this year, covering the period between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020. Should the European Commission agree to Eurofer's request, registration means duties can be retroactively applied to imports of hot-dip galvanised material from the countries.EUROFER said "If imports are allowed to continue to surge, without the possibility of retroactive measures, significant inventories are likely to build up from now until the imposition of provisional measures. These inventories, which could then be sold by the importers free of AD duties, would seriously undermine the duty's remedial effect. Exporters from the countries were trying to front-load volumes into the EU ahead of the potential imposition of measures.”According to the EUROFER data, in 2020 Russia exported 311,882 tonnes of HGD to the EU countries, while the EU imported 916,558 tonnes of the given products from Turkey. In the first nine months this year, the EU countries imported 288,723 tonnes of HDG from Russia and 1,000,017 tonnes of HDG from Turkey
