El Diario Montanes reported that European ferroalloy producer Ferroglobe’s subsidiary FerroAtlantica has suspended the last two furnaces in operation at its ferromanganese and silicomanganese plant in Boo de Guarnizo in northern Spain due to high energy costs as producing is making it lose money. It is unclear when the plant will return to production.With this closure, Ferroglobe has temporarily idled the furnaces at all its plants that produce silicon metal, ferrosilicon and ferromanganese in Spain ie Sabó in Galicia, Boo in Cantabria, and Monzón in Aragón, due to the energy crunch.Ferroglobe is a global leader in advanced metallurgical products. Ferroglobe was founded on 23 December 2015, out of the combination of the privately-owned Spanish company Grupo Ferroatlántica and the publicly listed US company Globe Specialty Metals. The company is the largest merchant producer of silicon metal in the Western World, and a leading global producer of silicon based alloys and manganese based alloys.
