Gerdau Brazil has placed an order with Russula for Mill Pulse, the digitalization tool that helps steel industry operations to improve production management and size change procedures by interlinking rolling mill and workshop online data. Mill Pulse is a digital tool designed exclusively for rolling steel. The combined bar and wire rod mill is located in Charqueadas Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. Mill Pulse is oriented to help the digital factory anticipate the final customer requirements by empowering solutions with innovation and digital transformation with advantages such as improving production processes, reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and gaining agility and competitiveness. Mill Pulse implementation is framed within the broader scope of an electrical, drives, and automation upgrade for the rolling mill. Mill Pulse will enable rolling mill staff to organize plant production and tracking, manage raw materials and finished products, collect and trace control data, report, and KPI monitoring. It will provide a simple, consistent, and intuitive tool for pacing production; having a global view for the rolling mill staff to achieve the final customer demand. Mill Pulse will simplify the internal changeover or setup procedure, eliminating nonessential operations, and creating standardized work orders with checklists assigned to user roles within the Mill Setup. Mill Pulse will also include a cut optimization functionality that will send to the automation interface the possible range to be used for the final product length while minimizing material scrap. Mill Pulse will also interface with the Russula automation system. Mill Pulse® Commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023. The Gerdau special steels plant is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul Brazil. Gerdau Charqueadas has an EAF and produces bars, special profiles, wire, wire rod and cold finished bars for construction, stainless steel and tool steels for the automotive industry.
