World Steel Association announced that world crude steel production for the 64 countries was 174.4 million tonnes in May 2021, a 16.5% YoY increase compared to May 2020. Africa produced 1.3 million tonnes in May 2021 up 65.1% YoY on May2020. Asia and Oceania produced 128.4 million tonnes up 11.7% YoY. The CIS produced 9.1 million tonnes up 14.8% YoY. The EU (27) produced 13.5 million tonnes up 32.7% YoY. Europe Other produced 4.2 million tonnes up 36.9% YoY. The Middle East produced 3.7 million tonnes up 16.8% YoY. North America produced 10.1 million tonnes up 47.7% YoY. South America produced 3.9 million tonnes up 49.7% YoY.

Asia and Oceania – 616.5 million tonne, up 14.9% YoY

CIS - 44.3 million tonne, up 8.4% YoY

EU (27) – 64.4 million tonne, up 15.3% YoY

Europe Other – 20.9 million tonne, up 17.3% YoY

Middle East – 17.8 million tonne, up 8.1% YoY

North America – 48.4 million tonne, up 11.3% YoY

South America - 18.7 million tonne, up 24.1% YoY

Total 64 countries – 837.5 million tonne, up 14.5% YoY

Top 10 Crude Steel Producing Countries - China produced 99.5 million tonnes in May 2021 up 6.6% YoY on May 2020. India produced 9.2 million tonnes up 46.9% YoY. Japan produced 8.4 million tonnes up 42.2% YoY. The United States produced 7.2 million tonnes up 47.6% YoY. Russia is estimated to have produced 6.6 million tonnes up 14.0% YoY. South Korea is estimated to have produced 6.0 million tonnes up 10.5% YoY. Germany produced 3.5 million tonnes up 35.5% YoY. Turkey produced 3.2 million tonnes up 42.4% YoY. Brazil produced 3.2 million tonnes up 40.1% YoY. Iran is estimated to have produced 2.6 million tonnes up 7.7% YoY.
