BENTELER Automotive and ArcelorMittal join forces in a green initiative, testing the use of low-carbon-emissions steel, XCarb®, in vehicle chassis and structural components. The partnership aims to cut CO2 emissions and foster sustainability, aligning with BENTELER's ambitious targets to halve production-related emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050. XCarb® steel, with a significantly lower CO2 footprint, is a key element in this drive for greener mobility.

BENTELER Automotive and ArcelorMittal, collaborators in the pursuit of sustainable solutions, have inked a Memorandum of Understanding to push the boundaries of their CO2-reduced product portfolio. The partnership, rooted in a longstanding relationship, centers on advancing sustainability in the automotive industry. Their shared vision involves testing XCarb®, ArcelorMittal's low-carbon-emissions steel, in various components, marking a crucial step in reducing the environmental impact of steel in automotive manufacturing.

Harald Weber, Head of Media Relations at BENTELER, highlights the company's commitment to aiding customers in achieving climate targets. BENTELER sets ambitious sustainability goals, aiming to slash production-related Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% compared to 2019 by 2030. Additionally, upstream and downstream emissions (Scope 3) in the supply chain are targeted for a 30% reduction. The Steel/Tube Division within BENTELER aspires to achieve CO2 neutrality by 2045, employing strategies such as enhanced energy efficiency and the use of CO2-reduced starting material.

Radek Jedlicka, Executive Vice President Global Procurement at BENTELER Automotive, emphasizes the collaborative nature of sustainability efforts. He states, "Sustainability is an issue that an industrial company cannot address alone. It takes the entire supply chain to transform the metal processing industry in a sustainable way." The cooperation with ArcelorMittal is viewed as a significant stride towards making mobility more environmentally friendly.

The partnership includes testing XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel in automotive components. This eco-friendly steel boasts a CO2 footprint up to 70% lower than its conventionally produced counterparts, contributing significantly to the reduction of carbon emissions in the automotive supply chain.

Paul Brettnacher, CMO Automotive, Packaging, Electrical Steels, and Tailored Blanks at ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, expresses gratitude for BENTELER's partnership in this decarbonization journey. He notes the pivotal role steel plays in reducing CO2 emissions in the automotive sector, highlighting the positive impact of sustainable practices.

The collaboration between BENTELER Automotive and ArcelorMittal symbolizes a decisive step towards greener mobility. The testing of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel in automotive components aligns with BENTELER's commitment to sustainability and offers a potential solution to significantly lower the carbon footprint in the automotive supply chain. This partnership exemplifies the power of industry collaboration in fostering environmental stewardship.
