Chinese steel maker HBIS has delivered 160mm 3.5Ni plates to its overseas clients to manufacture for the production of gas compression secondary washing tower of FPSO P79 oil project. 160mm 3.5Ni plate is currently China’s thickest plate, 10mm thicker than the existing one, replacing foreign made products. 3.5Ni steel is a type of super low temperature with 3.5% Nickel that owns excellent low temperature ductility, strength and welding capabilities even in temperatures as low as minus 101 degrees Celsius. It is one major material manufacturing low temperature equipment.In view of special requirements of plate thickness exceeding the standard 10 mm and impact strength nearly 3 times higher than domestic Q235 carbon structural steel, HBIS set up a special technical team to develop personalized product development plans for customers. HBIS team communicated with American Bureau of Shipping in several rounds and intensified technology upgrading, researched and developed created solutions. Two new technology innovations were designed on the basis of the technical indicators leading international standard, at least 15 days shorten delivery cycle, and finally won the customer recognition, obtained the exclusive right to supply steel for the manufacture of gas compression secondary washing tower for foreign projects.
