According to reports in Italian media, the historic steel plant in Servola in Trieste in La Ferriera in Italy, closed two years ago after 123 years of industrial and social history, was demolished on 19 September 2022. An explosion knocked down the last five buildings, four artifacts & a chimney. This was the hot area of the plant, the one where the blast furnaces were.Siderurgica Triestina owned by Arvedi of Cremona, dismantled all that was iron in the area to transfer and recycle it in the Cremonese plants. Icop did the rest, cleaning up the area entirely. The adjacent cold area where the rolling mill is located, the steel mill, remains standing. The closure was not only the end of an old plant with a strong environmental impact but the end of an era that had marked Trieste society and the Slovenian community.
