Portfolio has reported that Hungarian government will pay the wages of Hungarian integrated flat steel producer Dunaferr workers in the next six months, which is more than HUF 16 billion (USD 45 million). Hungarian Prime Minister Mr Viktor Orbán said “That should allow enough time for a suitable new owner to be found who can ensure reliable and stable operation at Dunaferr, an enterprise essential for Hungarian industry. In addition to the measure for the workers, the government will work in the coming months to become the owner of the Dunaújváros ironworks. We are working to save Dunaferr,” The 1.6 million tonnes per year steelworks has been idled since the third quarter of 2022, when it suspended its two blast furnaces, and went into administration about a month ago.
