India's Ministry of Electronics and IT introduces groundbreaking initiatives in Kerala, launching the "Centre of Excellence in Intelligent Internet of Things Sensors" and the "India Innovation Centre for Graphene." These centers, established in collaboration with the government of Kerala and Tata Steel, aim to drive R&D, innovation, and capacity building in IoT sensors and graphene technology. In a transformative move, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) unveils two pioneering programs at Maker Village, Kochi, Kerala, propelling the state into the forefront of technological innovation. Secretary S Krishnan led the launch, emphasizing the significance of Intelligent Internet of Things (IIoT) sensors and graphene technologies in advancing digital transformation and economic growth.

The CoE in IIoT Sensors, situated at Maker Village Kochi, is a unique facility initiated by MeitY and the government of Kerala. Designed to accelerate sensor development for Intelligent IoT systems, it spans applications in networks, devices, and sensor systems. The center aligns with India's vision for technological prowess and digital advancement.

Simultaneously, the launch included the inauguration of India's first Graphene Centre, IICG, also at Maker Village Kochi. Established in collaboration with Tata Steel Limited, this center aims to drive research, product innovation, and capacity building in the realm of graphene and 2D material systems.

Digital University Kerala (DUK) and the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (CMET)-Thrissur serve as technical partners for these centers. The objective is to establish a comprehensive ecosystem encompassing R&D, incubation, innovation, skilling, capacity building, and testing & certification.

Secretary S Krishnan highlighted the pivotal role of IIoT sensors and graphene technologies in the digital landscape. He outlined the main objectives of creating a startup ecosystem in these areas, emphasizing that the centers will provide end-to-end solutions from material to product/system development.

The event also witnessed the launch of Hardtech 2024, Maker Village's annual flagship program. This initiative will bring together leaders from industries, startups, investors, academia, and R&D organizations, fostering collaboration in electronics hardware design and manufacturing.

The launch event was graced by dignitaries, including Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY; Shri Rajesh Singh, Joint Secretary & Financial Adviser, MeitY; Dr Rathan U Kelkar, Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of Kerala; Prof Saji Gopinath, Vice-Chancellor, Digital University Kerala; Shri N Sainathan, Chief New Materials Business, Tata Steel; and officials from Govt of India and Government of Kerala.
