<p>Japanese steel maker JFE Steel Corporation & Tohoku University has created JFE Steel x Tohoku University Green Steel Co-creation Research Institute on 1 February 2022 for promoting research activities with an eye on the carbon-neutral era. In the future, under a strong industry-academia collaboration system, both companies will further accelerate joint research on low-carbon steelmaking processes through cross-departmental collaboration between corporate engineers and university researchers and will develop new materials, including new materials.</p><p>The newly established Co-creation Research Institute will build a cross-departmental operating system and cooperate with each other in a wide range of fields, including steelmaking process development and material development, to take a multifaceted approach to issues related to low-carbon steelmaking processes. At the same time, it will be possible to discover new development themes from a new perspective. Furthermore, by dispatching young researchers, they will develop highly specialized human resources who will lead the next-generation steelmaking industry by utilizing the state-of-the-art mathematical analysis technology possessed by Tohoku University for experiments scheduled to be carried out by JFE Steel.</p><p>Co-creation management team consists of three teams of JFE Steel process development, material development & planning promotion and Tohoku University’s three teams of process development, material development & planning promotion. Especially Appointed Professor at Tohoku University JFE Steel’s Mr Yuji Miki will be Operation General Manager with Tohoku University Graduate School of Engineering’s Professor Mr Kousuke Yoshimi will be Support Manager: </p><p>JFE Steel & Tohoku University had earlier signed cooperation agreement in 2017 & 2020 to establish a joint research department on advanced analysis technology for steelmaking processes, which is important for reducing CO2 emissions.</p>
