Press Trust of India reported that JSW Steel has increased the quantum of pulverized coal being purchased from Russia to 10-15% of its requirements in recent times. JSW Steel’s Deputy Managing Director Dr Vinod Nowal told PTI “We have increased our supplies of pulverized coal from Russia up to 10-15% of our requirement. Earlier, it was in the range of 2-3%.” The higher PCI purchase by JSW Steel comes amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has disrupted raw material supplies to steel sector. Incidentally UK’s Financial Times had reported on 12 May that JSW Group’s Chairman & Managing Director Mr Sajjan Jindal in an interview had said that “JSW Steel had met Russian coal traders but was not offered a serious discount. It’s not very attractive to buy from Russia, and then also that would upset our customers in the US and in Europe.”
