According to Steel Orbis, the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization has announced that the process of reviewing and evaluating the environmental impact assessment application submitted by Turkish steelmaker Kaptan Demir Çelik for a planned project to increase the capacity of the smelter and rolling mill in Tekirdag has been completed and the application has been approved. Following the planned increase in capacity under the project, which has an investment cost of USD 2.5 billion, the annual capacity of the steel making will increase from 1.140 million tonne to 3.140 million tonnes of crude steel and the annual capacity of the flat and section rolling mill will increase from 900,000 tonnes to 2.900 million tonnes. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2024.Founded in 1964, Kaptan Demir Çelik started with the first rolling mill established in Karabük. Today, it produces at international standards with a steel mill, rolling mills, oxygen plant located in the Trakya region.it produces internationally certified iron and steel with its 1.4 million tonnes per year billet mill and 2 rolling mills with a total capacity of 1.400 million tonnes per of rebars
