Libya Herald reported that the Libya Iron and Steel Company has resumed production after a two month hiatus. It reported that the first of its factories to resume production is the double line specialized in the production of skewers, with the first line producing 8 mm diameter skewers. All factories and production units were expected to resume their activity either this week or next week.It will be recalled that, reacting to severe criticism over peak summer power cuts, Libyan Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba had taken to the drastic measure to reduce the increasing power cuts of shutting down the LISCO factory. The dramatic move announced on 29 June was in order to inject the 150 MW the LISCO factory consumes into the national network. The move came as Libya witnessed extremely high summer temperatures over the last two weeks of June which led to increased power cuts.
