Malaysian Customs Unearths Misdiclared Imported Steel Cargo
The Star reported that Malaysian Customs Department has seized close to MYR 10 million worth of smuggled steel. Customs Department Director General Datuk Seri Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said the seizure was made during Ops Waja from June 29 to July 2. He said "We detected a total of 57 containers loaded with steel without proper documentation. Based on our checks, the items were declared as Nickel Steel Plate in Coil and Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Coils. The seizure is estimated to be worth MYR 6.11 million with unpaid duties amounting to MYR 3.53 million.”
He added "We are now conducting further investigations into the importer and Customs agent involved in the smuggling of these containers.”
Steel is classified as a prohibited trade under Item 1, Fourth Schedule/Section Two of the Customs (Prohibition of Imports) Order 2017.
