Mechel’s trading company Mechel-Service OOO has supplied the first batch of rebar for the construction of a new terminal at Novosibirsk’s Tolmachevo Airport. The batch included 1,300 tonnes of rebar produced by Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant.
The airport terminal complex will be reconstructed in two stages. The first stage is construction of a new 56,000 square meter terminal, which will be larger than the entire existing airport. This stage is due to be completed in the third quarter of 2022. The entire project will be finished by 2025. The airport complex’s approximate total area will be more than 100,000 square meters. The airport management has chosen the concept of the Moscow architectural bureau Speech for the new terminal. Sergei Kuznetsov, the chief architect of Moscow, headed the architect team. The airport’s main lobby will have columns clad in stainless steel, resembling aircraft turbines. The terminal’s special feature will be its height of more than 30 meters, which is roughly the height of an 11-storey building. The architects suggest that transparent glass prevalent in the new building will have the outdoors and the interior visually converge. The airport's passenger traffic will increase from 6 to 10 million people after reconstruction.
