Metalloinvest’s Alexey Ugarov OEMK has completed the overhaul of the pellet plant at the pelletising unit ahead of schedule. Instead of the estimated 324 hours, the enterprise’s specialists completed the overhaul in just over 290 hours without compromising quality and in compliance with occupational safety requirements. The timeframe was reduced thanks to successful collaboration across the entire enterprise, comprehensive planning and a high level of preparedness as well as the application of small mechanisation tools, fixtures and equipment. Early completion has enabled the production of an additional 16,000 tonnes of oxidised pellets.
For the first time since its launch, the drive of the pellet plant, a structurally complex mechanism, has been replaced. In addition, a frequency converter was installed on the recovery zone fan, and the vibration levels of the main technological air-cooling fan were reduced to minimum values.
This is already the fourth major overhaul at the enterprise carried out as part of the maintenance and repair transformation programme to increase the availability of the key technological equipment. Previously, overhauls were carried out at DRI Plants #1 and #3 at the Pellet and DRI Plant and at Rolling Mill 700 at Rolling Mill #1.
