Russian steel maker Metalloinvest announced that Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant named after AA Ugarova Managing Director Mr Sergey Shishkovets is leaving his post for personal reasons and until the appointment of a new Managing Director, Mr Alexey Kushnarev, Director of the Metallurgical Division of Metalloinvest, will combine his duties.
Under Mr Shishkovets leadership, significant work has been done to develop production facilities. The technical re equipment of the continuous casting machine No 3 was completed and the hot-rolled steel heat treatment section was put into operation, which made it possible to strengthen Metalloinvest's position in the market of high-quality rolled steel. The Ball Rolling Mill was launched, an important project in terms of synergies for Metalloinvest's mining enterprises.
Mr Shishkovets, Honored Metallurgist of the Russian Federation, has devoted more than 40 years to metallurgy. Among the milestones of his biography is his work for more than 6 years as a production director at OEMK, managing director of Ural Steel, head of section rolling shop No. 2 at OEMK.
OEMK is the only full-cycle metallurgical enterprise in Russia that implements the technology of direct reduction of iron and smelting in electric furnaces, which make it possible to obtain steel practically free of harmful impurities and residual elements. In 2020, OEMK produced over 4.1 million tonnes of iron ore pellets, 3.2 million tonnes of direct reduced iron and 3.5 million tonnes of steel.
