The Ukrainian economy is gradually coming to its senses. In Zaporizhia, the Metinvest Group resumed operations with several assets at Zaporizhstal. Zaporizhstal General Director Mr Oleksandr Myronenko told Ukraine 24 TV channel- “We are located 50-60 km from the combat zone, and despite this we have started production of Zaporozhye enterprises of the Metinvest Group. Last week we resumed work at the Zaporizhzhya Foundry and Mechanical Plant, also started coke production at Zaporizhzhya Coke, and at the weekend we resumed production at Zaporizhzhya refractory. This chain was a preparation for the launch of the main metallurgical asset Zaporizhstal. And last week we inflated blast furnaces 4 & 3. The company will work on two blast furnaces. We plan that the production volume this month will be at the level of 65 thousand tonnes of pig iron, and next month already 150-170 thousand tonnes.”

Mr Myronenko said “We had to reorient ourselves, because our main chains of delivery of raw materials and shipment of finished products are now changing. Traditionally, we received and sent everything through the seaports of Ukraine, but now they are blocked by the aggressor, so we can not do that. Therefore, together with the state authorities, Ukrzaliznytsia, we are working to create new chains and receive raw materials and send finished products through the western border crossings. Yes, there are still some problems with the accumulation of products at border crossings, but they are being resolved. I believe that this will allow us to increase additional production capacity in the near future, because we do not have two blast furnaces, but four. That is, we can add more volumes and attract people to work and get paid, and we deduct taxes, and the region, despite the difficult situation, worked properly. We must keep the economic front and help our defenders drive out the aggressor.”

He added “Logistics difficulties are quite significant, because the western border crossings are not designed for the current volume of production. We need to organize special points where our goods will be reloaded on European railways and sent on to metal users. Regarding ports: I think the situation will be long, because there are a lot of mines and restrictions on the movement of civilian vessels. I think it will take three or four months to restore standard logistics.”
