Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works General Director Mr Pavel Shilyaev took part in the launch of an electric steel-making shop with a casting and rolling module at the MMK Metalurji site in Iskenderun in Turkey. MMK Metalurji began hot tests of an electric steelmaking shop with a casting and rolling module at the Iskenderun site in July 2021. At the moment, the production, which was stopped in 2012 due to unfavorable economic conditions in the Turkish market, has fully completed hot testing of technological equipment. The electric steelmaking shop with a casting and rolling module, intended for the production of hot-rolled coils, has resumed its work and is increasing production.

The company notes that the launch of an electric steel-making shop with a casting and rolling module at the MMK Metalurji industrial site in Iskenderun implies a gradual increase in production volumes. In total, it is planned to produce 200-260 thousand tonnes of hot-rolled steel in 2021, reaching its full design capacity in 2022.

At the same time, MMK Metalurji recorded a record monthly production of hot-dip galvanized steel, exceeding 86 thousand tonnes. Two hot-dip galvanizing plants at MMK Metalurji's sites in Iskenderun and Istanbul set another record for the monthly production of hot-dip galvanized steel, as in Iskenderun the record level was 45,219 thousand tonnes, and at the site in Istanbul 41,221 thousand tonnes. In total, by the end of July, the company produced 86,440 thousand tonnes of premium finished products. The previous record was recorded in January this year, when the corresponding production volume amounted to 78.613 thousand tonnes of hot-dip galvanized steel

MMK Metalurji complex includes an electric steelmaking shop with a casting and rolling module, a cold rolling mill, and a service metal center with a continuous hot-dip galvanizing unit and a polymer coating unit in Iskenderun, a service metal center with a continuous hot-dip galvanizing unit and a polymer coating unit in Istanbul. The complex in Iskenderun also includes a seaport capable of receiving ships with a displacement of up to 100 thousand tonnes.
