According to an order issued by the Indian Government’s Department of Personnel & Training, Mr Atanu Bhowmick ha been appointed as Director-in-Charge of Steel Authority of India Limited’s Rourkela Steel Plant from the date of his assumption of charge of the post till the date of his superannuation on 31 December, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. In his new role, Mr Bhowmick will be a member of the Board of Directors of SAIL and will report to the Chairman. He will be overall in-charge of Rourkela Steel Plant and will be responsible for the efficient functioning of the Plant and the concerned mines for achieving the corporate objectives and performance parameters. He will also be responsible for project implementation at the plant or concerned mines and for marketing or sales of products from the plant or concerned mines. The Public Enterprises Selection Board had recommended the name of Mr Bhowmik for the post of Director in-charge of Rourkela Steel Plant of the Steel Authority of India Limited on 7 December 2021. Thereafter, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment Mr Bhowmik, was posted as the Executive Director Operations of SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant, has earlier worked with the RSP at senior positions. Prior to his posting as ED Bokaro Steel Plant, Mr Bhowmik was the General Manager Blast Furnace at RSP. Mr Bhowmik is an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology, erstwhile Regional Engineering College, Rourkela.
