Japanese steel giant Nippon Steel has relined the No 3 Blast Furnace at Nagoya Works from January to June 2022 and has decided to start of operations of the by around the end of August 2022. Nippon Steel’s CFO Mr Takahiro Mori told analysts “The relining of the Nagoya No 3 blast furnace has been completed but we will make a comprehensive judgment regarding the best time to resume its operation for us and for the market, by taking into account demand trends in the market. We will not resume operation based on a single, non-continuous factor. For your information, we are not considering at all the banking of other blast furnaces at this point. Nippon Steel had decided to reline the No 3 blast furnace of its Nagoya Works in June 2020 in order to maintain and further enhance competitiveness of the Nagoya Works’ upstream integrated production, which is a key to appropriately respond to customer needs and to prevail jointly with customers in global competition. After the relining, advanced IT and other leading-edge technologies from Japan and abroad will be adopted in the No 3 blast furnace to realize stable production and higher productivity.Furnace capacity: 4,425 cubic metersInvestment amount: Approximately JPY 49 billionContractor: Nippon Steel Engineering
