Russian pipe maker United Metallurgical Company OMK has mastered the production of new pipeline systems, unique in geometry and mechanical characteristics, for the Kursk NPP-2 construction project. The company has already shipped more than 10 tonnes of new products, and plans to deliver another 50 tonnes by the end of the year. In cooperation, the order is being fulfilled by two OMK enterprises. OMK's Chelyabinsk plant Trubodetal produced steeply curved bends, and the Belgorod plant Energomash completed pipeline systems for the reactor building from them. The peculiarity of the order is that all products comply with the ISO 4200 size range, measured in inches as compared to metric parts are used for nuclear power plants built according to Russian designs. In particular, the OMK Trubodetal plant produces bends according to the diameter to diameter principle, with outer diameters corresponding to 60.3, 76.1 and 88.9 mm. In fact, every detail is a new type of product, for which OMK purchased special tooling and carried out pilot work on mastering it.For the manufacture of bends, pipes are used according to the PNST 453-2020 * standard, which has more stringent requirements for the mechanical properties of parts a(usually pipes made in accordance with GOST and TU are used).The parts are produced according to a new technology for Russia - the cold forming method, which was the first to be mastered by the team of the Chelyabinsk OMK plant. It differs from the broaching method traditionally used for the manufacture of such products in a shorter production cycle, less labor intensity and reduces the risk of defects.
