OMK Expands Range of Casing Pipes with OTTM Threaded Connection

Leading Russian pipe maker United Metallurgical Company OMK has mastered the production of a new standard size of casing pipes with OTTM threaded connection, coupling thread for casing pipes with trapezoidal thread. Pipes with a diameter of 114 mm and a wall thickness of 6.4 mm were produced according to TU 1321-016-05757848-2005 from own hot-rolled steel in the new electric-welded pipe shop No. 1 of the OMK Vyksa plant in Nizhny Novgorod region. Previously, OMK produced casing pipes with a larger OTTM connection from 146 to 324 millimeters. This type of product is in demand in the construction of vertical sections of wells in oil, gas and gas condensate fields.

The first batch of new pipes with a volume of 860 tonnes was manufactured by OMK for the oil company LUKOIL. Specialists of the workshop and the Engineering and Technology Center of the OMK plant independently carried out the adjustment and developed a control program for the thread-cutting equipment, which ensured the required quality of the products.

Vyksa plant OMK produces electric-welded casing pipes with a diameter of 102-426 mm and a wall thickness of 5.6-12.7 mm with various types of threaded connections in accordance with API Spec 5CT or GOST 31446-2017 standards and similar specifications. Casing pipes are required for the construction of oil, gas condensate and gas wells. They are used for fixing the walls of wells and preventing rock shedding into an open wellbore. The pipes are connected to each other using threaded connections, cut at the nipple ends of the pipes and couplings, forming a single sealed string along the entire length of the well.

OMK put into operation a new electric pipe shop in the Nizhny Novgorod region in July 2020. The most advanced technological lines from the leading international and Russian manufacturers are installed here.
