Steel Authority of India Limited’s Bhilai Steel Plant’s Blast Furnace 4, which taken down for Capital Repair from 7 January 2018, was blown in by BSP Director Incharge Mr Anirban Dasgupta on 11 August after the successful completion of modernization. With the successful completion of the Blowing Inn activity, Blast Furnace hot metal production has begun During the shutdown, several repair activities such as replacing carbon blocks, replacing furnace shells, etc as well as complete repair of the furnace. Notable that during this traditional capital repair, three major upgrades were performed. These include upgrading the old Russian style stove to the Hugoven stove. This new stove will be able to provide hot blast temperatures up to 1200 degree Celsius, higher than the previous stove 150-200 degree Celsius. High hot blast temperatures will lead to tremendous improvement in the furnace's techno-economics. Another upgrade has been done replacing the old electro-mechanical drill machine and Madgan with new hydraulic drill machine and mud gun. This new drill machine and Madagan will help for better tapping periods and prove to be helpful in better furnace system. Establishment of a dedicated Coal Dust Injection unit for Blast Furnace-4 was also launched
