Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), under the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has reported an unprecedented production increase in its latest fiscal report. The steel plant has successfully set new records in the production of hot metal, crude steel, and saleable steel for the period of April to October 2023.
RSP has produced 2,599,262 metric tons of hot metal, 2,396,779 metric tons of crude steel, and 2,429,833 metric tons of saleable steel. These figures represent an impressive growth of 4.6%, 3.2%, and 12.7% respectively compared to the last fiscal year, showcasing the plant's significant strides in productivity.
The company's achievement extends to its various departments, with the Coke Ovens, three Sinter Plants, Blast Furnace-5, Plate Mill Plates, HR plates from HSM-1, and SW Pipes all surpassing their cumulative Annual Production Plan (APP) targets from April to September 2023. Additionally, Hot Strip Mill-2 reached a new monthly production milestone of 226,475 metric tons in October 2023.
The first seven months of the current fiscal year have seen the Sinter Plants produce a record 4,119,791 metric tons of sinter, contributing greatly to the overall success of the plant. The combined power generation from CPP-1 and CPP-3 hit a high, reaching 70.89 Megawatt, marking their best performance for the first seven months of any fiscal year.
In October 2023 alone, the state-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2 achieved its highest monthly production, rolling out 226,475 metric tons of HR Coils. It also broke a daily record on October 30th, rolling 9,615 metric tons of slabs and producing 9,370 metric tons of HR Coils. Not to be outdone, the Pipe Plant (ERW) set a new single-day record by manufacturing 575 metric tons of pipes on October 15th.
The Director In-charge of RSP, Atanu Bhowmick, commended the entire team's effort for these achievements. He highlighted the strategic importance of not only increasing production volumes but also focusing on more customized value-added products to boost the profitability of the plant.
