Steel Authority of India Limited’s Rourkela Steel Plant, along with Indian Institute of Metals Rourkela Chapter & NIT Rourkela, organized 2 day long International Conference on Reducing Carbon Footprint in Metal Industries at Gopabandhu Auditorium. Rourkela Steel Plant former Managing Director Dr Sanak Mishra highlighted the importance of industrialisation, urbanisation as well as reducing emissions. He said “Steel industry has a great future in India, as the per capital steel consumption in the country is very low. We however have to take cognizance of carbon footprint as well as resources like water, power and good quality raw material.” More than 300 persons from 39 industrial organizations including Tata Steel, JSW Steel, JSPL, Hindalco and various units of SAIL as well as 7 Academic and Research Institutes had taken part in the conference. In the 10 technical sessions organised during the conference, 35 research papers were presented and various aspects of Reducing Carbon footprint in the metal industries were discussed.
