Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) basks in the glory of receiving the esteemed National CSR Golden Peacock Award 2023 in the Steel Sector for their laudable strides in fostering sustainable agricultural practices. P K Swain, CGM (TA & CSR), and Munmun Mittra, GM (CSR), proudly accepted this accolade at the 18th International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility held at Hotel Taj Land Ends, Mumbai. The prestigious recognition was bestowed upon RSP for their pioneering initiative, the Integrated Approach for Economic Upliftment of Small Women Farmers through Sustainable Green Farming. At the heart of this initiative lies a strategic project in collaboration with NIT Rourkela, focused on training 700 farmers, predominantly women from peripheral villages, in organic farming techniques over a four-year period.

The project's primary objectives are multifaceted. It aims to empower women by enhancing their skill sets, bolstering soil conditions in small rural holdings, facilitating marketing avenues, and fostering networking through various entities like ORMAS, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and the Department of Horticulture (Govt. of Odisha). The initiative supplements family incomes, advocates eco-friendly sustainability, aligns with government-sponsored programs, and harnesses the potential of SHG groups through the Mission Shakti project, promoting greener farming practices while ensuring soil health and product longevity.

The collaboration underscores RSP's commitment to uplifting rural communities and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Their concerted efforts not only empower women but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable agricultural landscape, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Conclusion:

RSP's proactive measures and strategic collaboration with NIT Rourkela epitomize a steadfast commitment to fostering sustainable farming practices and empowering rural women. This prestigious accolade not only recognizes their concerted efforts but also propels RSP towards a more sustainable and socially responsible future.
